This is your sign to ditch the clique New Years' resolutions this year!
It's that time of year again. The week between Christmas and New Years when everyone seems to be preparing themselves for the new year, and the new, better person they hope to become. Typically, around this time, I jot down my new years' resolutions in my planner never to look at them again. This year, I am hoping to take a bit of a different approach. I decided to focus on goals that are more "mindset" and mental health focused. This year I realized that in previous years it was easier for me to keep up with measurable goals, such as weight loss, healthy eating, being more healthy, etc., but it was more difficult for me to focus on the mindset goals that I had wanted to attain. As we wrap up another year in "COVID-19 times," it might be helpful for to set some positive mindset goals to continue to improve overall mental health. Here are some positive mindset goals that I set for myself for 2022!
Say no more often
This is a big one for me! Personally, I'm a big people pleaser, and I know many of us are! A lot of times we sacrifice our own happiness for the happiness of others. While it is great to make others happy, it is even more important to make yourself happy first. A lot of this can come from "FOMO" (fear of missing out.) Part of learning to say no more often comes from being content with taking time for yourself when needed. This was one of my goals for this year, and I hope to continue to "say no" more often this year.
Control your own destiny
As cheesy as this might sound, focusing on controlling your own destiny is one of the most mature things you can do for yourself! Ultimately, the trajectory of your life is in your hands! There's not a better time to start taking charge of your destiny than in the new year.
Focus on listening
There are two types of people in this world- people who LOVE to talk and share every detail of their life, and those who would rather keep quiet and listen to others. Personally, I'm the former. This year, I would like to focus on having a happy balance of talking and listening to others.
Know your worth
This might seem like an obvious one, but often times it's not! Once you realize your own worth as an individual who has many talents to offer the world, you can really start dreaming big. Start by surrounding yourself in suitable environments with the right people for you, people who know your worth.
